Maasai

The Masai is the name given to a largely nomadic people in East Africa. The Masai, mainly living in Tanzania and Kenya, managed to preserve their age-old traditions despite the growing modern civilization. Due to various causes, such as the reduction of grazing land for their cattle and drought, this traditional way of life is under great pressure.

The Masai are known as a friendly and hospitable people who appreciate it very much when tourists visit their village. The sale of their handmade jewellery, traditional shawls and dresses is a close source of livelihood. A visit to a Masai village is definitely recommended.
